Gone are the days of customers spending hours clipping coupons and wandering up and down grocery store aisles figuring out which products will score them the best deals. A company is trying to make sure everyone has access to healthy meals no matter where they live, and local businesses are even getting in on the action.Ziscuit is a multifunctional website that searches grocery stores in a shopper’s area offering them the best prices on items they’re looking to buy.“We’re the world’s first grocery search engine,” Ziscuit CEO and founder Mark Peterson said. “Put your list on our platform and we’ll find where the items are the cheapest in your neighborhood at all the stores.”Inspired by his mother, Peterson created the multifunctional website after wishing the tool was available to his mom when he was a kid. The platform also offers food delivery services—tackling issues of food insecurity across Birmingham.“What we wanted to do is give our shoppers an opportunity,” he said. “Put your list and shop every store in Birmingham. Pick those items you want, and we bring the food to you.”Ziscuit also partners with local business owners making their products available at the customers’ fingertips. Nancey Legg is the founder and CEO of Better Kombucha. Her company is the first to offer a subscription-based product to customers on the platform.“Making sure that people in food deserts have the opportunity to have good food—to have something other than white bread and chips, and so it’s just an honor,” Legg said.Legg hopes using Ziscuit will expose people to a healthier drink option when they are looking for something other than a soft drink or juice.“Part of our core values for the company are the importance of community, taking care of the community, educating the community and giving back to the community,” Legg said.Zicsuit will deliver within a 20-mile radius within the city limits. There will be two other companies offering subscription services coming to the platform with one even available next week. The longer customers subscribe to products the deeper the discount. It also offers a community forum for people to post their healthy recipes that can be shared with other users. Users can earn money for posting recipes as well.
