Trump’s tariffs will impact baby gear. Shop Babyletto cribs before prices rise

Earlier this month, President Trump signed an executive order implementing new tariffs on imports from several countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Bangladesh — nations that play a major role in manufacturing baby furniture and gear.

These tariffs range from 10% to 55%, with more increases expected in August with the goal to rebalance trade relationships and reduce the U.S. goods trade deficit, according to the administration.

But for parents? It means prices on nursery essentials are about to go up, and Babyletto is already sounding the alarm.

Babyletto, a fan-favorite brand for its modern, safety-certified nursery furniture, recently shared in an email to subscribers and an Instagram post to followers that starting July 31, they’ll be raising prices on many of their products in response to these new tariffs.

“We’ve done our best to shield our community from these rising costs,” the note reads. “But to keep delivering the quality, safety and design you count on, we have to start adjusting prices on many of our items.”

Building a nursery is already a big emotional and financial investment. And with inflation, supply chain hiccups and now tariffs in the mix, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

But the good news is there’s still time to plan smartly and shop intentionally.

How to navigate tariff-imposed buying decisions

The economic landscape may be shifting, but, for parents welcoming a new little one into the crew, so is your family.

While you can’t control trade policy, you can make thoughtful choices that align with your budget and unique set of circumstances.

  • Don’t impulse buy: Yes, prices are going up, but not everything will skyrocket overnight. Focus on the big-ticket items you know you’ll need right away — like a crib, changing table, or glider for feeding sessions — and try to purchase those before the end of the month.
  • Think long-term: Stage-based, transitional furniture, like Babyletto’s Gelato 4-in-1 Convertible Crib, grow with your child so they’re a reasonably smart investment. The same goes for hybrid changing table stations with removable changing trays that can come off as soon as the diapers do and fit seamlessly into any big kid’s room.
  • Lean into community: Ask friends or family if they’re ready to part with gently-used gear. Or check local parent groups for secondhand finds — especially for items that aren’t safety-critical.
  • Stay informed: Brands, like Babyletto, are being transparent about their pricing changes. Sign up for newsletters, follow them on social, and keep an eye out for any last-minute promotions.

So if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to buy that dream crib or the glider you’ll spend countless hours in — this might be it.
