4 best men’s fall fashion trends 2024, according to an expert

I’m not ashamed to admit that the moment the calendar switched over to Sept. 1, I immediately started prepping for fall. Don’t get me wrong, though. It’s not that I dislike summer. Rather, it’s because fall comes with many things to look forward to: the holidays, cool weather and of course, fall fashion.

Like many previous seasons, autumn is sure to serve some chic styles for both men and women. To help you get ahead of the trends, celebrity stylist Andrew Weitz recently shared with TODAY some looks to watch this season, including cherry red accents, flannels and more cozy styles.

Whether your shopping for yourself or the special guy in your life, these trends will be a hit this season. Keep reading to discover the best fall fashion trends for men, according to a stylist, plus more picks we love.

Cherry red staples

Weitz says one of the colors you’ll frequently encounter this fall is red. It’s bold, edgy and more versatile than you think. He recommends any shade of red, but if you’re new to bright colors, Weitz says “you can offset the boldness with a darker tone like black” to test the waters. Wearing a pop of color this season will exude a modern and stylish look,” he adds.

How to style this trend:

Zara Basic Slim Fit T-Shirt

You can never go wrong with a basic tee. This one from Zara is a slim fit and comes in a variety of colors to switch around your look.

Zara Contrasting Collar Jacket

Add a pop of color to a monochromatic look with a bold jacket like this one. Weitz recommends layering with Zara’s red collar jacket that’s already selling out.

Editor’s note: Weitz’s pick is almost out of stock, but shop a similar pick below.

Calvin Klein Reversible Quilted Snap Front Bomber

Consider this a two-in-one jacket. On one side is this stunning red (or any other color of your choice), and the other, a classic black. Both sides can be styled by just turning the jacket inside out.

Zara Washed Text T-Shirt

If you look closely, Zara’s washed T-shirt has an ombre effect at the bottom, giving it a unique appearance for those looking for a not-so-ordinary tee.

Zara Contrast Sneakers

The chunky loafers and contrasting colorways give this sneaker an athletic feel. It comes in two colors for all sizes, ranging in size 6 to 14.

Zara Jogger Waist Stretch Pants

We think joggers have the potential to be office-approved, and these are a perfect example. From far away, they could pass as a classic trouser, but up close, the drawstring waist and cotton blend give it a cozy appearance.

Double shirting/flannel

Consider this trend another way to layer, says Weitz. “One of the easiest ways to step up your style game is by layering two button-up shirts over one another,” he recommends. “Try it with a solid base T-shirt, then add a solid colored button up. Finally, add a flannel or any other patterned or textured button-up to take your style up a notch.”

How to style this trend:

Uniqlo Checked Flannel Shirt

It’s flannel season! Offered in a unisex style, the Uniqlo Checked Flannel Shirt is available up to a 3XL for all three patterns, which includes this subtle blue.

Uniqlo Super Non-Iron Slim-Fit Shirt

We’re guilty to admit that we aren’t the biggest fans of ironing, which makes this non-iron and wrinkle-resistant button-up from Uniqlo extra appealing.

Uniqlo AIRism Cotton Oversized Crew Neck Half-Sleeve T-Shirt

With a soft cotton blend, this unisex t-shirt is just as comfortable as it looks, suggests the brand, with many reviews calling it one of the best shirts out there.

Uniqlo Pleated Wide Pants

This pleated pant might just be their next favorite pair. For instance, it has a two-way stretch, a bit of a low rise, straight-cut and wrinkle-resistant fabric. We might just get a pair ourselves.

H&M Sneakers

One staple you should have in your closet? A classic white sneaker, of course! There are mixed reviews on whether this H&M pair runs large or not, so be mindful of the size you pick before purchasing.

Grandpa-core

Earlier this year, we saw the “eclectic grandpa” trend take off across social media, and Weitz predicts it will continue into the fall. You’ll notice the trend leans more into sweaters and vintage-inspired fits, but this season, the cardigan will take reign.

“It [cardigans] works with everything!,” notes Weitz. “There are endless styling options, but most importantly, cardigans give off a cozy feel.”

How to style this trend:

Zara Washed Jogger Waist Pant

Relaxed throughout, these trousers have a washed finish that gives it a gently loved appearance.

Zara Wide Cut Viscose-Blend Sweater

Since it has a viscose-blend, we imagine Zara’s Wide Cut Sweater is breezy, soft and lightweight for all the fall layering you’ll be doing.

Zara Tie-Dye Print Cardigan

Go outside of your comfort zone this season by opting for a vibrant cardigan. This one from Zara has a bold tie-dye print that will surely make you stand out.

Zara Mesh Sneakers

Tired of solid sneakers? This pair has mesh detailing on its sides and upper for a bit of contrast.

Classic tailoring

“It’s not just about classic tailored suiting anymore,” claims Weitz. “It’s more about ‘casual tailoring’ and ‘the modernized suiting,’” which he suggests involves well-fitted pieces, such as a turtleneck, trouser or slim jacket.

“The turtleneck enhances the casualness of the other tailored pieces, which in turn has you now sporting a casual tailored look,” he adds.

How to style this trend:

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater

The Quince Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater is evidently warm at just a glance. There’s the timeless, relaxed silhouette, ribbed hems and 100% cashmere fabric that will be a perk throughout the season.

Zara Dress Penny Loafers

Loafers can quickly elevate an outfit, no matter how casual. If you don’t have a pair just yet, this one from Zara is a great start.

Uniqlo Single Collar Short Blouson

Instead of a blazer, opt for a fitted coat that is easy to dress up or down, such as this pick from Uniqlo.

H&M Regular Fit Suit Pants

You don’t have to splurge on a quality pair of trousers, which these H&M pants can attest to. They have a standard silhouette with a regular fit and subtle leg creases.

Abercrombie & Fitch Cropped Half-Zip Sweater Polo

When we think of grandpa-core, we think of polos. Not just any polo, though: A sweater polo. This one from Abercrombie encompasses the trend with its boxy frame and warm cotton-blend fabric. With that in mind, we aren’t surprised that its a bestseller for the brand.

Old Navy Relaxed Zip Jacket

Tackling textures and patterns, this Old Navy jacket offers two trends in one. While it meets our expert’s suggestions, the jacket is also practical for upcoming weather changes, too. The brand says it’s made from 100% cotton canvas with a quilted build that tells us it will have you covered this season.

Madewell Textured-Knit Short-Sleeve Shirt

While we love classic button-ups, add a little flare with some textured fabrics. Take this pick from Madewell as inspiration. The short-sleeve top will instantly elevate any trouser or pant thanks to its thick knit detailing. It’s cozy, versatile and transitional.

Sailwind Men’s Crewneck Sweater

After testing this sweater, our writer found it to be high quality for what it’s worth. “Upon opening it up, I could feel the mid weight and fine softness — although it was pretty wrinkled, it definitely felt like a piece more expensive than $30,” he noted in a review. So if you’re looking for an affordable fall staple, we suggest taking a peek.

Under Armour Men’s UA Relaxed Long Sleeve

If it’s too soon for sweater weather for you, Under Armour’s Relaxed Long Sleeve is the perfect medium for unpredictable fall weather. The fit is loose with a cotton-blend that makes this warm and comfortable for breezy days.

Canada Goose Tobermory Heavyweight Pant

According to the brand, their Tobermory Heavyweight Pant offers a “next-to-skin comfort” thanks to 100% cotton composition. Not only does this fabric offer extra coziness, Canada Goose also says these pants are abrasion-resistant and durable.

Adidas Gazelle Indoor Shoes

Because red will be the color of the season, add a pop of color with this viral sneaker from Adidas. But if you prefer other shades, the brand offers the shoe in 26 other colors.
