Do you dread grocery shopping because of the high prices? Here are five tips for making it less painful!Photo byJoshua Rawson-HarrisonUnsplash
I’ve found two stores that regularly offer what I buy at decent prices. One of them offers specials each day of the week. I’ve gotten pretty familiar with their sales, and it seems that on Monday, they always sell buy-one-get-one-free pork tenderloins, and on Tuesday, they have chuck and chicken (ground beef and boneless, skinless chicken) for $3.99 a pound. I don’t know the prices where you live, but that’s a great deal here! Another store always sells beef chuck roasts for $6.99 a pound or less, and that’s several dollars cheaper than at the major grocery stores nearby. I often use beef chuck roasts, and I have their butcher cut some into 2″ cubes for tender and tasty stew meat. So my main tip today is this: find a go-to store for items you regularly purchase!

Tips to Maximize Your Grocery Savings:
- Identify Your Preferred Store: Choose a local store (your go-to store) that consistently offers good prices. If they offer specials, sign up to receive them. I try to get to my go-to stores every few weeks, and I oftentimes freeze what I buy until I’m ready to use it.
- Find the Sales with the Flipp Website or App: Before you consider grocery shopping, find out what’s on sale at the stores where you might shop. You can view all the deals specific to your area by entering your zip code. They cover all kinds of stores: grocery, drug stores, big box stores, home & garden, general, pets, automotive, and more.
- Plan Your Meals Around the Sales: This makes a big difference, especially when prices are as high as they are now! Design your menu/meal plan based on what you can buy for a reasonable price. If you can’t buy something reasonably, come up with another idea for the meal.
- Create a Detailed Shopping List: Before shopping, list exactly what you’ll need to make your meals. The goal should be to shop once for what you’ll need to make this week’s meals. By having and sticking to a list, you’ll be more likely to avoid impulse purchases and take advantage of the sales and discounts you’ve identified.
- Remember Digital Coupons & Loyalty Discounts: Many stores offer digital coupons that can be accessed from the app on your phone or through your loyalty card. Maximize your savings on groceries by taking advantage of both sales and these added offers.
By focusing on these 5 tips, you can transform your grocery shopping experience into something more pleasant because you know you’ll reduce your costs as much as possible.
