The weather has started to cool and jackets and sweaters are emerging after hibernating in dark closets, but the question after the long days of summer sun are over is: What do I wear now?
Residents of the Mid-Ohio Valley have choices on both sides of the river to find their perfect fall fashions.
Peyton and Peppy Boutique has sat in a gray and blue building on Grand Central Avenue in Vienna for the last eight years and it offers a wide variety of fall fashions.
“People get really excited for our fall,” Peyton and Peppy Manager Amy Snodgrass said. “I feel like it’s one of our like best times at Peyton and Peppy because everybody’s very excited for when we put out for fall.”
The boutique is seeing a lot of variations of green in fall fashion right now, according to Snodgrass.
“I mean anything from olive to emerald to sage, I mean all are included,” she said. “Greens are really big right now.”
Peyton and Peppy also likes to mix in shades of mocha, brown and burgundy for fall, Snodgrass said.
“I think we are seeing a lot more like mauves and roses coming in this year too …. That’s kind of been a change for us, kind of adding those light colors in,” she said.
At the beginning of the fall season, Peyton and Peppy customers bought a lot of light flannels and blousier shirts in different colors, according to Snodgrass, and the store is seeing a lot of light layering, like a plaid shirt layered over top of jeans, dresses or soft pants.
Customers are also buying sweater-textured matching two-piece outfits, which they were not doing last fall, Snodgrass said.
Now that fall is in full swing customers are also buying dresses, heavier jackets and graphic sweatshirts and shackets, according to her.
The store is also selling “lots of flowy pants right now with patterns … it’s a lot of light layering,” she said.
Peyton and Peppy carries a lot of dresses for different events, according to Snodgrass.
“We’re seeing a lot of really pretty dresses with kind of like the fall colors and then fall patterns,” she said.
Hats are big for accessories, according to Snodgrass, especially ball caps with graphics on them.
“I still think those are going to be very much a trendy thing for fall,” she said, adding they can be mixed and matched with dresses, sweaters and more.
“You can add those to any outfit,” she said.
With all of these options for all, how does someone know how to put an outfit together?
When she gets dressed, Snodgrass said, she marries fall and summer and likes to do light layering. She said she wears a dress and sneakers and adds a light layer like a jacket or flannel.
“I like to think of all the style kind of hacks or tricks and think color, pattern, texture, to kind of mix all those together and just make a very eclectic look.”
She suggested layering something like a soft sweater with a heavier knit jacket on top.
“Then you just have a very luxe look for fall,” Snodgrass said.

Teri Ann’s has been on Front Street in Marietta since 1961.
The customers at Teri Ann’s want to look nice, Teri Ann’s owner Teri Ann (Zide) Brockett said.
“It’s good to feel good about yourself,” she said. “And looking good is feeling good.”
Fall is a warm and inviting season and the staff at Teri Ann’s is always excited for it, according to Brockett.
“Everything is rich and cozy and beautiful,” she said. “It’s all fresh and exciting.”
The colors for fall this year are rich, according to Brockett.
“There’s caramels and spice and chocolate and olives and those kinds of colors,” she said. “So it’s a very warm and cozy season.”
Teri Ann’s customers are buying anything that is cozy, according to Brockett.
“They’re buying sweaters and vests and we are more of a casual resource,” she said, though the store does sell special occasion clothing.
She said people are wearing jeans and a sweater or a cute casual dress and sneakers.
“There is just a more relaxed feeling and there’s nothing wrong with that,” Brockett said.
There is a lot of the boho kind of look trending right now in fall fashion, according to Brockett.
‘We have lots of soft fabrics,” she said. “One thing that we are noticing in many things, most all of our things feel good. They don’t have to be jogger pants and a sweatshirt to feel good. They can be a really nice pair of jeans and a t-shirt and they just feel good but they are more casual.”
The store is seeing a lot more softer wider leg jeans trending too, according to Brockett.
She said there is plenty of layering this season.
“We love popping a little sweater over a little maxi dress or a midi dress … the sweaters right now are just beautiful and jackets,” Brockett said. “We love selling that extra piece because it completes the outfit.”
She said adding a jacket or vest elevates a look and pieces like these usually take an outfit up a notch.
“They should incorporate items into their wardrobe that suit their lifestyle in an elevated fashion,” Brockett said. “We’re not just talking about going out for a walk or going to gym class… I do think every day is important enough to look good.”
When getting dressed for the fall, Brockett believes people should add pieces that make them feel good, because every day is precious, she said.
There is a sneaker craze for fall accessories.
“It is immense and intense and it’s carrying forward into spring,” Brockett said.
Teri Ann’s carries “cute little booties” and sneakers, she said.
She said she is seeing a lot of mixing of silver and gold and even some pewter in jewelry for the fall.
“There’s been a lot of layers of small jewels,” she said.
Teri Ann’s likes to help customers find a “glamor piece” like a “pretty scarf or cool necklace” to complete an outfit, Brockett said.
“The truth is, we should all be dressing up for our position,” she said.
